Daniele Durante Wins Prestigious Mitchell Prize
Daniele Durante from Bocconi’s Department of Decision Sciences has been honored with the Mitchell Prize by the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA) for his paper on "Extended stochastic block models with application to criminal networks.” His pioneering research uses advanced Bayesian statistical techniques to analyze complex criminal networks in the digital age, providing new insights into their structure and operations. These methodologies offer law enforcement and policymakers powerful tools to combat organized crime more effectively.
Durante, also a recipient of a European Research Council (ERC) grant, expressed his gratitude and excitement about the impact of Statistics and Data Science on addressing fundamental societal issues. He looks forward to advancing this research as part of his ERC project NEMESIS, which aims to develop new statistical methods for the analysis of complex networks, further enhancing our understanding of criminal organizations.
